Stefon Diggs and the Commanders Buzz: Could Washington Add Another Veteran WR?

The Maryland native addressed the possibility of joining Washington while the Commanders continue evaluating veteran receiver options ahead of training camp.

The buzz surrounding Stefon Diggs and the Washington Commanders continues to grow.

During a recent interview with The Team 980 AM, Diggs addressed the possibility of eventually playing for Washington, a team connected to his hometown roots and his time at Maryland. While he stopped short of confirming anything, his comments were enough to spark another round of speculation about whether the Commanders could still make a significant addition at wide receiver.

Diggs explained that he is familiar with the city, the people and the organization, adding that joining Washington “makes sense” because it is home. At the same time, he emphasized that he is currently focused on training and charity work while evaluating what situation feels right moving forward.

For Washington, the conversation becomes interesting because the Commanders still have room to add another proven veteran presence to the offense.

The Commanders already have momentum entering the season behind Jayden Daniels, but adding another experienced receiver could help elevate the offense even further, especially with questions still surrounding depth and consistency outside the current core group.

Diggs would bring proven production with seven 1,000-yard seasons and big-game experience, but the discussion also includes risk factors such as age, durability and locker room fit.

Washington could also explore other veteran options including DeAndre Hopkins, who still offers savvy route-running and leadership, a potential reunion with Deebo Samuel, or Brandon Aiyuk if he eventually becomes available following his situation in San Francisco.

The bigger question now is whether Adam Peters and the front office feel another move is necessary, or if they are comfortable heading into camp with the current group.

One thing is clear: the Commanders continue to be connected to veteran receiver conversations, and Stefon Diggs may be the biggest name linked to Washington yet.
